KPFF BIENNIAL CONVENTION AUGUST 1-3, 2013

The Kentucky Professional Fire Fighters Biennial Convention is scheduled for August 1-3, 2013 in Louisville at the Marriott Louisville Downtown.

Rooms have been blocked off at a rate of $109/night beginning on July 31st.

There will be PEP Training classes from the IAFF on the morning of August 1st.  Classes have not been finalized but these are the same classes that are held at Affiliate Leadership Training Summit and they will be free to members and Locals of the KPFF.  These are also the same instructors from the IAFF.  So this gives you a chance to take a class without the normal registration fee the IAFF requires normally around $400 plus per person.  Please make the time to take advantage of this opportunity. Updates soon on which classes will be offered.

The Convention Business will take place on August 2nd and 3rd.

President Baer is currently in discussions with numerous vendors that are willing to sponsor events in an attempt to hold costs at a minimum for our delegates.  Aside from the room expenseand registration, there should be very little financial burden to your locals.

Pension Update 5:30pm
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Well the Governor and the House Leadership has made a deal with the Senate Republicans on a pension deal and funding. All day long firefighters and other members of the KY Public Pension Coalition talked and tried to persuade legislators to vote no on the pension plan and the funding of the plan itself. Many of our friends were receptive and felt left out and betrayed by House Leaders. Many of our friends could not look us in the eyes or talk to us. We made it difficult to the point that the Governor's office called in individual legislators backing us to try and strong arm them or threaten them by taking away road projects away or threaten them with re-districting if they did not vote with the House leaders or Governor. We continued to advise all that we will count the votes on who voted for us in protecting our pension. Targets will be on "old friends"!!! The compromise: -The General Assembly SHALL PAY THE FULL ARC -Resets amortization from 25 years to 30 years thus lowering the yearly payments -COLA's: Annual COLA provided if General Assembly provides it or it is pre-funded. Senate came up with adding100% funded before a cola can be paid for. -Ky Retirement board increased from 9 members to 13. 1 each from KACO, KLC, school board and CERS employee. -Transparency of pension: details and info will be available online. -Super Board picked by Governor and legislator will oversee KRS Board. - Legislators and Judicial members included in changes - New Hires will go to a hybrid cash balance plan in January 1, 2014. - Calls for 8% of pay and employer contributes 7% and the plan guarantees a return of 4% per year, but the 4% is smoothed out over a 5 year period. - No COLA, and once a employee retires they can turn their account into an annuity based on their age and monies at time of retirement. Or they can take a full lump sum of their money. We will count who votes with us!!! This seems to be a done deal and will be passed soon. Chris Bartley KPFF Legislative Chair 859-948-5155
